Isca Woodcrafts Show at Tredegar House, Newport

Blanks come in lots of different sizes

Not really a blog this time, more of an announcement.

Isca Woodcrafts is holding its annual woodworking show at Tredegar House on Saturday 17 May from 10am to 4pm.

The show, now in its sixth year, has become an established event in the woodworking calendar and attracts experienced craftspeople and enthusiastic beginners.

Isca Woodcrafts is open all year round at the craft units at Tredegar House, however the show itself takes place in the 17th century stable block and courtyard.

As always, there will be demonstrations, including wood turning, chainsaw carving, furniture making, pyrography and stick making. It all takes place in the charming surroundings of a 17th century stable block and courtyard.

All exhibitors have one thing in common – they are passionate about wood and its creative potential. From beautiful wooden boxes to intricately designed Welsh lovespoons, from carved walking sticks to beautiful bowls, there will be handmade crafts on display for all wood lovers to admire (and purchase). Gail and Paul are both very talented; Paul can design and create almost anything in wood (check out the detailed wooden plane on display in the shop area) and Gail is great at pyrography.

A large selection of woods, available as boards (for furniture making) and blanks (for woodturning and carving), including exotic African, Australian and South American woods, and indigenous favourites like ash, sycamore, lime and oak, will be available to purchase from Isca Woodcrafts. The General Tool Store (Abergavenny) will also be on hand to offer advice on the most suitable hand or power tools to use for any creative job.
